From the moment he joined the Youth Transition Services program in high school, he discovered a place that nurtured both his skills and his confidence. Through hands-on experiences at local businesses and community organizations, Adrian didn’t just learn job tasks; he learned how to navigate the real-world and build the self-assurance necessary for success. “I learned how to operate in different environments,” he recalls. “It wasn’t just about work; it was about life.”
After high school, Adrian continued to grow at The Viscardi Center through the Culinary Skills training program. Introduced to the kitchen, he immediately felt at home. “It’s a daily living skill,” Adrian explains. The program offered him more than culinary techniques—it provided mentorship, structure, and the chance to explore a career path where he could thrive. Day by day, Adrian honed his abilities, learning both practical skills and the confidence to step into new challenges.
Spring 2025 marked an important milestone in Adrian’s journey. With guidance from The Viscardi Center’s Employment Placement Services team, he secured his first full-time position in the East Meadow School District, preparing and serving meals to students. “It’s my first full-time job,” he says proudly. “I’m ready to take on the challenge.”
Looking back on his journey, Adrian reflects on the skills he developed and the confidence he gained. Each experience—from early job training to culinary practice—taught him something new about himself and what he is capable of achieving. He takes pride in his independence, the responsibility of his work, and the small daily victories that come with building a career.
